Blessing of the Backpacks

BLessed to be a blessing

One of our favorite Sundays at Christ Church is Blessing of the Backpacks, where children, students and families all come together for prayer and worship prior to the start of the school year. This year, Blessing of the Backpacks will kick-off an entire month of focusing on family and educational ministries within Christ Church and the city of Memphis. We are blessed as Christ followers and want to respond by being a blessing to others in the city going back to school.

School Supplies Donation

We will collect school supplies for our two partner schools in the Binghampton neighborhood, Cornerstone Preparatory Elementary School and Lester Preparatory Middle School. Supplies can be dropped in locations around the church, including the front lobby of Seabrook, outside of Wilson Chapel and the Sanctuary, and at check-in for Children's Ministry & Student Ministry. Supplies needed include:

  • Composition Notebooks
  • Wide Rule Paper
  • Pencils (Large/Chubby style, #2, or mechanical)
  • Scissors
  • Crayons
  • Large Pink Erasers
  • Glue Sticks
  • Hand Sanitizer

The greatest way to impact the life of a child is to be present! There are several ways to do this in the city. By clicking the Children's Ministry button below, you can learn all sorts of different ways to serve internally on Sunday Mornings or Wednesday Nights. In Student Ministry, there are several different roles available to serve students in Middle School and High School. If you are looking to serve outside the church, there are numerous opportunities to serve with our partner schools in Binghampton: Cornerstone Prep, Lester Prep, and East High School. Our vision is to impact children in the neighborhood from Pre-K through their high school graduation, and you can be a part of that! If you have any questions about this Sunday, or would like to be involved in the facilitation or delivery of school supplies, please contact our Coordinator of Serving and Outreach, Grant Caldwell.
