Blessing of the Backpacks

blessing of the backpacks 2019

One of our favorite Sundays at Christ Church is Blessing of the Backpacks, where children, students and families all come together for prayer and worship prior to the start of the school year. This year, our Blessing of the Backpacks celebration will be Sunday, Aug. 11. We are blessed as Christ followers and want to respond by being a blessing to others in the city going back to school.

SERVE

The greatest way to impact the life of a child is to be present! If you are looking to serve outside the church, there are numerous opportunities to serve with our partner schools in Binghampton: Cornerstone Prep Elementary, Lester Prep Middle, and East High School. Our vision is to impact children in the neighborhood from Pre-K through their high school graduation, and you can be a part of that! Click the button below to fill out a survey to get going.

Arise2Read Training will be
Monday, August 26
6:00 PM in the Parlor

We will collect school supplies throughout the month of August. Bring your supplies on Sunday or designate “Backpacks” in the memo line of your offering to contribute directly to Christ Church’s effort to address educational inequality in the city of Memphis.

School Supplies Donation

We will collect school supplies for our two partner schools in the Binghampton neighborhood, Cornerstone Preparatory Elementary School and Lester Preparatory Middle School. Supplies can be dropped in locations around the church, including the front lobby of Seabrook, outside of Wilson Chapel, and at check-in for Children's Ministry & Student Ministry. Supplies needed include:

  • Composition Notebooks

  • Wide Rule Paper

  • Pencils (Large/Chubby style, #2, or mechanical)

  • Scissors

  • Crayons

  • Large Pink Erasers

  • Glue Sticks

  • Hand Sanitizer
