Serve On Our Team
Serving Opportunities in Children’s Ministry
To serve in any of the areas below, contact Krista Wilford at (901) 261-2104.
Sunday mornings or Wednesday evenings
If you love people and conversation, here’s a great way to help our children and families feel comfortable and welcome at CUMC. Our Check-In Team members serve at one of two Check-In Stations: the Children’s area in Wilson/Ross or the Nursery area on the 1st floor of Seabrook. On Sunday mornings we run both stations during the 8:30, 9:45 and 11:00 service hours; on Wednesday evenings the Wilson/Ross station is open from 5:45-6:45 for the mid-week special programs. Most shifts run 30-60 minutes, and volunteers serve on a rotating basis.
We very much need volunteers to help our programming kick-off smoothly each week as children and families check-in for activities. It’s a simple, fun way to share your gift of hospitality with our families.
If you like rocking babies and playing with kids, this volunteer spot was made for you. Nursery volunteers serve at 9:45 and 11:00 hours on a rotating basis. What could more fun than this! A great starter for people just getting their feet wet in the serving pool!
Small Group Leader
Consider yourself blessed if you choose this area of service. You’ll get so much more than you can ever give. Small Group Leaders guide children through Bible-based activities, build relationships with kids and their families and provide a living example of God’s Word. Small Group Leader opportunities are available from Pre-K-5th grade. Your passion for kids and love of sharing your faith will be a great fit! Serve during the 9:45 or 11:00 hour on a rotating basis. Materials are provided and prepared for you each week.
Large Group Leader
Lead our children through an exciting Bible story and bring God’s Word to life for them, in a large group environment, just as the name suggests. Each week our kids gather to hear a Bible story in a fun and engaging setting. Different grade levels meet together in separate locations (Kindergarten-2nd grade & 3rd-5th grade), so you have the chance to work with an age group that best suits your talent. Your gift of teaching and leadership will make the difference here. Your passion for kids and the Word will change lives. Serve during the 9:45 or 11:00 hour on a rotating basis. Materials are provided and prepared for you each week.
If you love to be crafty and organized, join one of our Resource Teams. The teams meet two to three times per month at 9:30 a.m. in the resource room on the 1st floor of Seabrook. One team meets on Wednesdays, the other team on Thursdays. We prepare the Sunday school containers that the Small Group Leaders use to teach their classes. This is a great opportunity to "prepare the way" for the ministry that takes place on Sunday mornings.
Your soulful and enthusiastic heart for worship will fit, along with your gifts in vocal music or instrumental music, with this serving opportunity. Lead during the 9:45 or 11:00 hour during our Large Group environment. Your leadership brings kids into the presence of God as you help them understand and participate in worship. Lead on a rotating basis or every week!
School of the Rock Faculty
Looking for a way to use your art to share the Gospel? You just found it. We have opportunities for artists of every kind to blend their medium with a Bible theme and share it with kids from Pre-K4 through 5th grade. Art, drama, technology, dance, music, athletics and more are part of School of the Rock. School of the Rock is a Wednesday night commitment from August-November and/or January-April, 6-8 p.m.
School of the Rock Helpers
Not feeling so artistic? Serve as an assistant to a Faculty member. Your love of kids and willingness to serve can help the School of the Rock Faculty as they teach an art medium to Pre-K4 through 5th grade kids. School of the Rock is a Wednesday night commitment from August-November and/or January-April, 6-8 p.m.
