Service Over Self (SOS)

June 23-28

Each summer our students serve in the inner city doing urban home repair—mostly roofing—for homeowners in Binghampton. It is a week where they learn a great deal about being the hands and feet of Christ, and we hope God uses it as a launching point for living a lifestyle of service.

  1. SOS is June 23-28. Drop off is at Christ Church at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, and pick up is between 9-10 p.m. at Christ Church on Friday, June 28. This trip is for current 6th-12th grade students.

  2. The cost for SOS is $450. There is a $150 deposit that is NON-REFUNDABLE. The remaining balance will be deducted on June 11.

  3. If your student has never participated in SOS before and they are interested, here are some brief details:

Students stay at the SOS center all week. We work during the day, and students sleep at the center at night.

SOS is a home repair-based ministry. Our work teams will most likely be doing roof work. The work is good, life-changing for families and highly rewarding. However, we are working in June, in the Memphis heat and the work can be challenging. This type of service does push students outside of their comfort zone and can be physically and mentally taxing.

If you’d like to learn more about SOS, visit or talk to one of our Student Ministry staff members.

  4. There is a meeting for those participating and their parent(s)/guardian(s) on Sunday, June 2 at 9:45 and 11 a.m. in the Rogers Center for Student Ministries.

***Students are required to stay at SOS the entire week. They may not arrive late to SOS, nor leave early. YOUR STUDENT WILL NOT BE ABLE TO LEAVE SOS AT ANY POINT DURING THE WEEK. Failure to comply will result in your student not being able to attend SOS in the future.***

This winter spiritual retreat takes place at Timber Creek Camp in Pulaski, MS. Students spend four days surrounded by God’s creation, new and old friends and caring adult leaders, allowing them the opportunity to connect or reconnect with our Creator. This retreat is for all 7th-12th grade students.

The retreat includes teaching, worship, small groups, hiking, canoeing, a ropes course, games, meals and fellowship. This is an awesome opportunity for you to be recharged and refreshed in your faith!
