The Five-Day Reading Plan

Why This Plan?

  • Content: This plan is set up with three potential layers that overlap throughout the year. This allows readers to read all three of these layers, reading the entire Bible over the course of the year, or just read one. Here is how the plan structures the Bible:

Old Testament

This plan is arranged in chronological order, reading two to three chapters per day. This helps readers understand the overarching story from Genesis to Malachi in the best possible way.

New Testament

This plan is set up for seasonal reading, with one chapter per day. Each season of the year begins with one of the four gospels, keeping the story of Jesus in front of you for the entire year, and readers will read the other epistles and letters throughout the year.

Psalms

The Psalms are arranged for devotional reading, with each week of the plan featuring three psalms to read slowly and pray through. By doing this, you have the opportunity to pray through all 150 psalms in the plan.

  • Discipleship: Since this is to be done with other people, this layered approach is designed to be read in community together, even if those in the community are at different reading and comfort levels with the Scripture.

  • Flexibility: As its name suggests, the Five-Day Reading Plan covers only five days of the week, rather than all seven. This flexibility allows time for weekly rest and reflection, catch-up on missed time, or further study with other devotional resources or groups you might be part of.

  • Cost: It’s free! If you have a Bible and a journal, you’re ready to go. There is no need to purchase a specialty Bible or read a specific translation.
