Turning Miles Into Meals

Addressing the food shortage in the Bidi Bidi Refugee Camp

Bidi Bidi Refugee Camp, established in 2016, is a massive settlement comparable in size to Orlando. Currently, home to approximately 190,000 people, mostly women and children, the camp faces food distribution challenges, with residents receiving limited rations of 3.8 kilos of corn, 0.8 kilos of beans, and 250ML of oil per month, equivalent to just $4.30 in USD.

Education in the camp is challenging, with around 110 students per teacher and teachers earning a modest $120 USD per month. To address food shortages, the UN allows residents to rent land for crop cultivation at a cost of $50 per year, located ten miles away from the camp, posing challenges like the absence of nearby water wells and the need for land clearance.

The surrounding host community, the Aringa, is an Unreached people group, but efforts are being made to share the Gospel with them despite the majority being Muslim. Believers in the camp exhibit remarkable faith, strengthened by God's grace.

Prayers are requested for believers working to spread the Gospel among the Aringa, as well as for God's guidance for Ruth Lomo and her staff. This initiative aims to support and uplift the refugee community in Bidi Bidi and foster positive relationships with the Aringa landowners.

Additionally, the dedicated team at Ebenezer Global has been hard at work improving conditions in Bidi Bidi Refugee Camp:

  1. Empowering Single Moms and Widowed Women: They have initiated a remarkable effort to clear 20 acres of farmland by hand, offering a lifeline to single mothers and widowed women in the camp, enabling them to cultivate their own sustenance.

  2. Providing Access to Clean Water: Recognizing the need for clean water, they dug a well by hand, ensuring Ruth and others have access to this vital resource.

  3. Agricultural Expertise: They've also hired an agriculture and farming expert who brings valuable knowledge to improve crop yields and food security.

  4. Art Programs for Girls: Fostering creativity and personal growth, regular art classes have been introduced for the girls in the camp, and a dedicated art teacher is now part of the team.

These updates reflect the commitment of Ebenezer Global to making a tangible difference in the lives of those in Bidi Bidi Refugee Camp. Your continued support and prayers are vital in sustaining these initiatives.
